The Last Supper: The Heart of Jesus Revealed Before the Cross

The Last Supper was not just a meal. It was a divine moment where Jesus opened His heart with deep love and purpose. Just before facing the suffering of the cross, He revealed the essence of His mission and love.

Why is the Last Supper a key moment?

Because in the intimacy of that night, Jesus summarized His mission. He knew His hour had come (John 13:1). He washed His disciples' feet—a sign of humility and service (John 13:5). He predicted Judas' betrayal (John 13:21). He instituted the Lord's Supper, declaring the bread and wine represent His body and blood given for us (Luke 22:19-20).

How was Jesus’ heart revealed?

Jesus knew He was going to suffer, yet He focused on His disciples. He comforted them: "Let not your hearts be troubled" (John 14:1). He promised the Holy Spirit (John 14:16-17). His heart overflowed with love and care. In John 17, He prayed for their unity, protection, and sanctification. That supper mirrored His perfect love.

What spiritual lesson can we learn?

The Last Supper teaches us to love, serve, and remain in God’s will even in painful moments. It calls us to true fellowship, humility, and faith in God’s promises. Jesus’ heart is our example: surrendered, loving, and obedient (Matthew 26:39).

An invitation to communion

The Lord's Supper is not just a ritual. It’s a moment of divine connection with Christ, who gave Himself for humanity. As we partake of the bread and wine, we renew our unity with Him and our commitment to live like Him.

Conclusion:

At the Last Supper, we see Jesus full of grace, truth, and love. This moment shows a heart turned toward others, even on the edge of suffering. May it inspire us to love Him more and live His life.
